Save up to hundreds of euros per year with a charging station that works with your solar panels
More and more households are charging their cars with solar energy
The combination of solar panels and an electric car makes sense: you generate your own electricity and use it directly to charge your car.
With a smart charging point, you get even more out of your installation, because the charging point automatically takes into account the current solar power production.
At Slimmelaadpunt.nl, we see that more and more customers are choosing an EV charging station with solar integration. This not only lowers your energy costs, but also prepares your home for the future.
How does charging with solar panels work?
A smart charging point – for example from MyEnergi Zappi, Peblar, Zaptec or Wallbox – continuously measures how much solar energy you are currently generating and consuming.
As soon as there is enough surplus, the charging point automatically starts charging.
If production drops, the charging point reduces the charging power or temporarily pauses.
This is called dynamic load balancing with solar priority. This way, you use your own energy to the maximum, and as little grid power as possible.
What are the benefits?
On average, an electric car consumes about 18 kWh per 100 km.
At 15,000 km per year, this amounts to about 2,700 kWh per year.
Depending on how much solar power you can use directly, you save:
-
With 30% solar charging: ± €220 per year
-
With 60% solar charging: ± €440 per year
-
With 90% solar charging: ± €650 per year
Do you drive more or generate more? Then the savings can be up to more than €1,000 per year.
The calculation is based on an average grid tariff of €0.35/kWh and a feed-in tariff of €0.08/kWh.
The advantages of smart charging with solar panels
✅ Lower energy bill – You charge with free electricity from your own roof.
✅ Faster payback period for your solar panels – More self-consumption means higher returns.
✅ Less strain on the electricity grid – You prevent peak loads and feed-in losses.
✅ Full control via app or web interface – You see exactly when and with what your car is charging.
✅ Ready for home batteries and dynamic tariffs – Your installation grows with the future.
Which charging points work with solar panels?
Not every charging point supports direct connection to solar panels. These models do:
-
MyEnergi Zappi – solar-controlled charging without additional modules.
-
Peblar Home / Business – connection via CT clamps and load balancing.
-
Zaptec Go 2 – prepared for smart energy managers.
-
Wallbox Pulsar Max – compatible with PowerBoost meter for PV charging.
-
Alfen Eve S-Line – suitable for PV optimization via energy management.
